Many thanks to Sylvia from York for the following excellent review.

New Hope for People with Lupus

By Theresa Foy DiGeronimo Prima Publishing, New York 2002

With medical review by Professor Stephen Paget, a rheumatologist with lupus credentials, this book justifiably claims to be your "friendly, authoritative guide to the latest in traditional and complementary solutions".

The profile of lupus and diagnosis indicates the wide-ranging complexities. Medical treatment, promising alternative therapies (with some dismissed), nutrition and exercise are all given attention, along with mind-body relationship, ways to reduce stress and boost energy, also "the future".

Detailed insight is clearly explained. Statements are based on research findings, with references listed. There are case studies and quotes from sufferers and a range of professionals. Headings and sub-headings make it easy to consult and "boxes" emphasis key points.

Of course, American organisations are mentioned, but most of the book and principles behind advice are relevant here. While realistic, it is hopeful and gives positive tips for living well with lupus.

Ordered through a local bookshop, I paid £13.99 in Dec. 04.
